Energized and ready to take on cooperative challenges, 14 young leaders from MASS-SPECC affiliates in Mindanao converged at the Junior Cooperators’ Camp (JCC) on October 26 to 28, 2017 at the Gardens of Malasag Eco-tourism Village in Cagayan de Oro City.
In honing these leaders, the camp aimed for participants to deepen their personal purpose and develop self-confidence and teamwork as they replicate the activities in their respective youth cooperatives.
The youth picked up relevant insights from team-building and values-fostering games, workshops and outdoor sessions, including the Savings Game facilitated by main resource speakers Mr. Alberto Capati and Dr. Carla Virtudazo of Savings Bank Foundation for International Cooperation (SBFIC).
Participants learned to trust in one another as they work together and tackle challenges, and not to compromise their cooperative values as they progress. They also brought financial dreams to life by drawing and coloring them in and sharing to the group. Mr. Capati tied this in with the Savings Game where he taught the value of wise financial decision making and how this can impact their goals and quality of life.
The three-day camp ended with the s’mores challenge where participants’ marketing skills were tested and creative artistry exhibited. In addition, initial activities for next year were laid out for the Co-op Youth Parliament (CYP) to pursue.
