MASS-SPECC Cooperative Development Center: Empowering Co-operatives for Over 50 Years

MASS-SPECC Cooperative Development Center stands as Mindanao’s oldest and largest regional co-op federation in the Philippines. With a rich history spanning over five decades, MASS-SPECC has played a pivotal role in the growth and development of co-operatives across the region. Established in 1966 as the Southern Philippines Educational Cooperative Center (SPECC), the federation emerged from the realization that co-op development stems from co-operative education. As parish-based credit unions organized themselves into co-ops, they recognized the need for support services and representation, leading to the formation of the Mindanao Alliance of Self-Help Societies (MASS). Moreover, the federation is committed to advancing the development advocacies of marginalized sectors, striving to reduce poverty and promote inclusive growth within Mindanao.

With 335 primary affiliate co-operatives spread across Mindanao and a collective membership of approximately 1.6 million, MASS-SPECC has established a robust network capable of driving change and making a difference.
