ADVOCACY PROGRAMS
ENVIRONMENT
The co-operative sector has been at the forefront of promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship as we continue to navigate through the pandemic. It is becoming increasingly clear that our actions significantly impact the environment.
In support of SDG 13 Goal (Climate Action), MASS-SPECC is committed to taking its environmental program, SCOOPS (Sustainable Co-operatives), to the next level. SCOOPS aims to develop co-operatives’ resiliency from natural disasters, strengthen sustainable development within co-operatives, and encourage pro-environmental behaviors among co-operators. MASS-SPECC aims to intensify and promote the program to the member co-ops. In addition, we implement the Daily 5S Habit and practice a solid waste management system in our offices.
We strongly encourage co-operatives to invest in renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power to reduce their carbon footprint. Supporting local and organic agriculture promotes sustainable food systems. Implementing waste reduction and recycling programs minimizes environmental impact. Co-ops can also develop environmentally-friendly products and services to meet the needs of their members while minimizing harm to the planet.
