Region 10 co-ops celebrate National Co-operative Month with tree-growing activity
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – To demonstrate strong environmental stewardship and community, 565 co-operative members from Region 10 joined forces with the Regional Cooperative Development Council (RCDC) and the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO) to plant trees in Camarahan, Pagatpat on October 12, 2024.
This tree-growing activity, held in celebration of National Co-operative Month, highlighted the collective commitment of co-ops to environmental sustainability and the improvement of local communities.
Starting bright and early at 6:00 in the morning, members from various co-ops across Region 10 worked together with CLENRO and RCDC, signifying their dedication to promoting green spaces and fostering ecological health within Cagayan de Oro.
As participants planted seedlings, they contributed to the city’s green canopy and strengthened a culture of cooperation, underscoring the role co-operatives play in advancing sustainable development.
RCDC Chairperson Dr. Gervacio Piator expressed the significance of the initiative: “This tree-growing activity exemplifies our commitment to environmental protection and the positive impact of collective co-operative action. Through activities like these, we celebrate National Co-operative Month not just in words, but in actions that resonate with our values and goals.”
CLENRO representatives joined the co-ops, facilitating the planting efforts and ensuring sustainable growth practices.
By the end of the event, hundreds of seedlings were rooted, symbolizing the co-operative movement’s growing influence on environmental preservation and the power of collective action.
This activity reflects a broader vision shared by Region 10 co-operatives, RCDC, and CLENRO to foster sustainability and resilience.
By joining hands for this initiative, they demonstrated how co-op principles can serve as a foundation for community and environmental well-being, marking this year’s National Co-operative Month with a lasting impact.
